WOOL
Our wool comes from an Italian spinning mill with roots dating back to the 17th century. The superfine wool used in our upcoming English rib knits is, without doubt, one of the finest carded wools in the world.
Wool is a natural fiber from animal origins, with surprisingly high-tech properties — a remarkable balance of comfort and environmental responsibility.
It is 100% renewable: every year, sheep regrow a full fleece after shearing.
It is also incredibly durable: wool fibers can be bent over 20,000 times without breaking. This elasticity allows wool garments to resist creasing and return to their original shape. And while strong, wool fibers are completely biodegradable.
Wool’s comfort lies in its thermoregulating qualities: it's breathable and can be worn year-round, in both winter and summer. Naturally hypoallergenic and antibacterial, wool can absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture before feeling damp — preventing unpleasant odors and that stifling heat often caused by synthetic fibers.
Merino wool and cashmere are even suitable for the most sensitive skin.
Lastly, wool is naturally flame-resistant, with an ignition point between 570 and 600°C, far higher than synthetic fibers, which ignite between 200 and 300°C. That said, all textiles should always be kept away from open flames and heat sources.
Great Wool Comes from Great Land
To produce the world’s finest wool, you must look to the land — to those regions where geography, soil, and climate come together to nurture a fiber with extraordinary qualities.
Among these regions, the high plateaus of New Zealand’s South Island and southeastern Australia stand out. Here, merino sheep have found the perfect environment to thrive, yielding a wool of unmatched fineness — and therefore, unmatched softness.
The spinning mill we work with sources its wool directly from these carefully selected farms.

Ethical Wool: Respecting Animals, Land, and Sea
In collaboration with our Italian ateliers, we’ve chosen to work with a spinning mill that not only produces yarns of exceptional quality but also meets the highest environmental and ethical standards.
Respect for animals and the land
Our wool supplier stands out for working directly with farmers — a rare practice in the industry that ensures full traceability and close oversight. This close collaboration allows for full traceability of the wool fibers and continuous oversight of animal welfare.
Each yarn we use is RWS-certified, mulesing-free, and also bears the SustainaWool label, specific to Australian wool. These certifications, issued by independent bodies, ensure compliance with the following criteria:
- Animal welfare and respect for the Five Freedoms — including a strict ban on mulesing
- Sustainable management of the grazing lands
- Fair working conditions for farmers and workers in the supply chain
What is mulesing?
Mulesing is a cruel surgical procedure, banned in most countries except Australia. It involves cutting away skin around a lamb’s perianal area — often with shears, and frequently without anesthesia — to prevent flystrike, an infestation caused by flies laying eggs in moist skin folds.
Not only is this practice inhumane — causing significant physical and psychological trauma — but it also fails to eliminate the risk of infestation, which may simply appear elsewhere.
A related technique, freeze mulesing, uses liquid nitrogen to destroy skin tissue in the same area.
This is why the RWS label — with its strictest standards — is so important when buying ethically sourced wool garments.
Protecting Human Health and the Environment from Harmful Chemicals
Ensuring traceability, animal welfare, and respect for the land is only the first step — albeit a crucial one. To transform raw wool into yarn and color it, the textile industry relies on chemical processes. It is essential that these substances are strictly controlled and used responsibly. Fortunately, our spinning mill meets the highest safety and sustainability standards.
- OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100
Our yarns comply with the OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100, which guarantees that no harmful chemicals are present in the finished textile. - APEO/NPEO FREE
The wool we use is entirely free from APEOs, including NPEOs — chemicals known to break down into endocrine disruptors when released into the environment. - REACH COMPLIANT
All production processes comply with the European Union’s REACH regulation, which aims to protect human health and the environment from the risks posed by hazardous substances. - ZDHC PROTOCOL
Our supplier is fully committed to the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) program, which supports the elimination of toxic chemicals from the supply chain and promotes a more ethical production model.

Wool That Doesn’t Itch
As people with sensitive skin ourselves, we’ve set a firm rule: anything that even remotely resembles scratchy toast crumbs is strictly off-limits.
For our throws, future knitwear, scarves, and socks, we’ve selected only the highest quality wool — meaning fibers that are exceptionally fine (less than 17 microns), expertly spun, combed, and dyed by highly skilled artisans. The result? A wool that doesn’t itch, doesn’t pill, and is a genuine pleasure to wear.
We’re currently prototyping both summer and winter pieces using blends of wool and other noble fibers, such as cashmere and silk. So soft, it feels like a second skin.
