Rectangular Tray — Burnt Orange
Rectangular Terracotta Tray – Handmade in Morocco.
This handmade terracotta tray is crafted in Morocco using traditional techniques. With its high edges, it offers beautiful versatility in everyday use.
As a serving tray, it pairs perfectly with a duo of coffee cups to create an elegant set.
Used as a platter, it is ideal for serving tapas, gyoza or sushi, and its size also makes it perfect for presenting a small coffee and sweet treat.
It also finds its place in an entryway as a change tray, or in the bathroom to hold everyday essentials.
CRAFTSMANSHIP — This terracotta tray is made using the slab-building technique, in which red clay is first cut with a wire tool, then passed through a slab roller to create evenly thick sheets. These slabs are cut to size and assembled to achieve the final form. A careful finishing stage is carried out before the first firing to ensure the tray’s sides are perfectly smooth. The trays are then glazed and fired again at 1100°C — 2012°F.
The main challenge in making these trays lies in keeping the edges perfectly straight after two firings. During firing, the walls naturally tend to curve inward, and only a high level of mastery of slab construction allows for clean, crisp lines. This is why we chose to work with this pottery workshop in Morocco, where generations of master artisans have refined their craft over the past two centuries and continue to excel in all traditional terracotta pottery techniques.
