Stoneware Deep plate Tondino — White Stucco
The Tondino plate is a handmade stoneware deep plate, entirely wheel-thrown in France. It is ideal for pasta dishes, soups, as well as for plating saucy dishes and desserts.
The name Tondino comes from the Italian tondo, meaning “round”, and refers to this specific type of plate that appeared in Italy in the 16th century. A Tondino plate is a deep plate featuring a central hollow known as the umbilicus, surrounded by wide, flat wings. This configuration originally allowed potters to showcase the finesse of their painted decoration and technical skills: the central well often featured a portrait, framed by richly ornamented wings, most often adorned with floral or geometric motifs.
For this historical shape, we chose to refine the form and proportions, presenting it in its purest expression, finished in a simple white stucco glaze.
