GILLES DALLIÈRE
If he had to start his life over, he would start it by embracing photography. Gilles Dallière dedicated himself to it later in life and now devotes himself to it daily.
After spending two years at the Beaux-Arts school in Saint-Étienne, Gilles Dallière developed a particular interest in architecture and interior design. He went on to study precise geometric drawing at the École Camondo in Paris. As an interior architect and designer, he joined decorator Yves Taralon’s team in the 1980s, where he learned that décor is as much about luxury as it is about what fades with time.
In the 1990s, he became a stylist, journalist, deputy editor-in-chief, and style director of Maison Française magazine. His refined eye and deep experience accompanied some of the most renowned lifestyle photographers through his editorial work. In the 2000s, his vision expanded further as he took on the role of artistic director and designer at Forestier, alongside his ongoing journalistic projects.
A tireless traveler, he photographs the world around him, recording both his fascinations and his wanderings. Photography has become his anchor — the visual and sonic world that now surrounds him. Each image is deliberate, never incidental. He looks at life in black and white, capturing each moment with a subtle aesthetic that elevates the everyday.
His latest series is titled clair/obscur. It comprises fifteen photographs printed in large formats (140 × 85 cm and 90 × 55 cm). These images reflect Dallière’s exploration of opposites that attract — where nature and architecture meet in complicity and quiet dialogue. Through delicate layering, distortion, and transformation, he creates what he calls “a space between worlds.” Each image is accompanied by a short text, also written by the artist, further deepening the interplay of light and shadow, black and white, clarity and obscurity.
